Violence occurs everywhere. The Monadnock region is no exception. According to the New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence:
- Since 2018, domestic violence was a factor in 72% of New Hampshire’s murder/suicides, with 86% of victims being women.
- 33.4% of New Hampshire women have experienced intimate partner violence.
- One in 20 New Hampshire men have reported being sexually assaulted, with 68% of those assaults occurring before the 18th birthday.
Since 2018, MCVP has worked with 4,479 survivors of domestic and sexual violence, stalking, and sex trafficking.
To support survivors and end violence, MCVP has a two-pronged approach:
CRISIS INTERVENTION
To respond to domestic and sexual violence, stalking, and sex trafficking in our community by providing a care and support system for survivors. To accomplish this, MCVP advocates support survivors with a host of programs and services:
- Walk-in services & 24-hour crisis line
- Court & police advocacy
- Trauma-Informed advocacy
- Emergency shelter
- Hospital advocacy
- Housing & economic empowerment
PREVENTION EDUCATION
To work to end interpersonal violence in all forms through primary prevention, community engagement, and collaboration. MCVP’s education team works toward this goal by offering comprehensive prevention programs which include, The Healthy Relationships Project (HRP). HRP is the centerpiece of our education programming. It is a comprehensive child sexual abuse prevention program that uses social-emotional learning to reduce the likelihood of victimization and perpetration of such abuse. Additionally, MCVP offers sexual violence and relationship violence prevention programming.
